Privacy Policy

Diem is an iPhone app for tracking important dates, reminders, widgets, and photo backgrounds. This page explains how the app handles data related to your use of Diem.

Local-first by default

Core event records can work on your device without creating an in-app account.

System permissions only

Notifications, photo access, and export-to-library actions depend on iOS permissions that you control.

Optional iCloud sync

If iCloud is available, Diem may sync data through your private CloudKit container. Without iCloud, the app still works locally.

1. Information We Handle

Event content such as titles, dates, notes, tags, and reminder settings.
Optional photos that you choose to attach to events or use as card backgrounds.
Local preferences such as language and display choices.
Saved event data used to render widgets and generate share images.

2. How We Use Information

To render your event list, detail screens, and countdown views.
To schedule local reminders when you enable notifications.
To display relevant event data in Home Screen widgets.
To generate share posters and exported images when you request them.
To optionally sync through Apple's private CloudKit infrastructure when iCloud is available.

3. Permissions and System Services

Notifications

Diem only sends local reminders after you explicitly grant notification permission. Denying notification access does not block event creation, editing, or viewing.

Photo Library

Diem accesses your photo library when you choose images for events. When you save an exported share image, the app may request permission to add that image to your photo library.

Location

The current public release does not require location permission for core features. If a future release re-enables event location features, the app will request permission when that feature is actually needed.

iCloud / CloudKit

If your device is signed in to iCloud, Diem may use Apple CloudKit to sync data to your private iCloud container. If iCloud is unavailable, the app can continue to work locally.

4. Third-Party Services and Sharing

The current repository indicates that Diem relies on Apple system services such as CloudKit, UserNotifications, Photos, and WidgetKit for sync, reminders, image handling, and widgets.

Diem does not sell your event content to data brokers.
No third-party advertising SDKs were found in the current repository.
No standalone third-party analytics SDKs were found in the current repository.

5. Data Retention and Control

Your events and local preferences remain on the device until you delete that content or remove the app.
If iCloud sync is enabled, related data may remain in your private iCloud container and will also be subject to Apple's iCloud terms.
You can reduce locally stored data by deleting events, turning off reminders, removing photo backgrounds, or uninstalling the app.
